All the comments and stories posted to Hacker News that reference this video.⬐ the_afYouTube says this is unavailable. Is it only available in France and Germany? Are there alternative sources? I'm interested in watching this...⬐ flobosg⬐ emreWhen I tried to open the video with mpv this showed up:> This video is available in Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Saint BarthΓ©lemy, Switzerland, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Germany, Denmark, Estonia, Spain, Finland, France, United Kingdom, French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Greece, Croatia, Hungary, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Latvia, Monaco, Saint Martin (French part), Martinique, Malta, New Caledonia, Netherlands, Norway, French Polynesia, Poland, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, Portugal, RΓ©union, Romania, Sweden, Slovenia, Slovakia, San Marino, French Southern Territories, Holy See (Vatican City State), Wallis and Futuna, Mayotte.
⬐ BefterriagerYou can try their website [0].Their documentaries seem to be subtitles in English, Polish, Spanish and Italian (in addition to the original French/German that is typical for all Arte programs).
So my guess would be it is made available for European Union only. Although you could argue that there are not many countries left in the EU whose main language is English.

⬐ the_afThanks for your help :) Unfortunately the Arte TV website is also region locked and doesn't let me watch this from South America. A shame, it sounded interesting.⬐ dylan604⬐ gumbySounds like it's time to fire up the VPN with an exit node in a different region, er, I mean visit the region personally yourself. Yeah, that's what I meant.> Although you could argue that there are not many countries left in the EU whose main language is English.Legally there are none (Malta has nominated Maltese and Ireland Irish, even though English is the most used language in both).
Thanks for posting this, phenomenal film and amazing documentary. RIP Syd Mead⬐ LargoLasskhyfvWatched it. Excellent. Though some parts may surprise some people. Won't spoil :-)⬐ genjipressNot available in the U.S. :/⬐ dylan604⬐ trackofalljadesSomeone in a beret smoking a cigarette laughs at your troubles.⬐ vansteenArte is a French/German public TV channel (excellent one in my opinion). I guess this video is blocked outside these two countries (also available in Belgium, Monaco, Luxembourg, Austria, and Switzerland I think)⬐ timackNot available in the N.Z. :/⬐ asymptosisOr AU⬐ novoselYou could try downloading it."The uploader has not made this video available in your country."⬐ shoto_ioMost comments here are related to availability in certain regions. It blows my mind that is so difficult to access content depending on where you are.I absolutely hate geoblocking. There is no single reason I can come up with why it could be a good idea.
⬐ marstallso people who create stuff can get paid?⬐ paleotropeWell one reason is there are many many different legal jurisdictions involved that handle media distribution differently. Licensing and copyright agreements are all over the place. Most of this stuff predates the internet from what little I know, so you have the typical legal clash between the last generations rent seekers and todays.
