All the comments and stories posted to Hacker News that reference this video. This is neat. I love fun with dimensions like this. This 4D minecraft clone is a similarly fun thing.
⬐ tysehr37Interesting, their way of demonstrating a 4th dimension is very unique. love how it became a game mechanic⬐ tracker1I think it'd be fun to have a 3D game with the explained 2D navigation mechanics... Looks like classic Mario Bros, until you shift... Add in some 3D baddies and a 3D observer mode, where you can see everything while "watching" players in the game.⬐ DigiDigiornoI agree that would be cool.FWIW, there is a 2d in a 3d world side scroller called Fez
It's way more limited, you can only rotate to 4 faces around the world. It's been a decade, but I remember it being a fun and short game.
⬐ meesterdudevery nerdy concept! And well crafted video. But as a gameplay mechanic not my cup of tea.⬐ bender142857I was really impressed just by the fact that this is fully functional. It's a funny headline but getting all the technicalities working with pathfinding, collisions, rendering etc. sounds like a nightmare. Coincidentally, spiders crawling through the 4th dimension to attack you from a plane you didn't even see is also that. His other video on making a 1D game is a similarly fun concept but I believe it was more of a game design challenge than a technical one. Cheers, great video.⬐ JoeyBananasa 4d spider could have a non empty 3d cross section in any dimensio⬐ pbsdsA 3d spider could easily be invisible to the 2d guy, by simply staying clear of his viewing plane. Hence why the "approaching perpendicular to his plane of existence" YouTube comment is actually terrifying.
⬐ sp0rkThis project looks cool and its video is really well-made. The segment with Frank works perfectly to explain how to play the game, while still managing to be entertaining.Honestly, from the title screen shown at the start of the video, I was expecting the project to be a quick Minecraft hack and the video to be the standard geek talking in monotone over screen capture footage. I was pleasantly surprised when a fully animated turtle dropped on to the screen and then it soon cut away to the split-screen shot that shows you the 2D plane in the 3D world.
I don't really have any feedback about the game itself because I haven't had a chance to play the demo yet, but I just wanted to say that it's evident that a lot of effort was put into this game and the presentation video.
