A phone only lasts a couple of years before it breaks or becomes obsolete. Although it's often just one part which killed it we throw everything away since it's almost impossible to repair or upgrade. visit www.phonebloks.com to show your support and raise your voice.

this reminded me of Dave Hakkens and his Phonebloks concept video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDAw7vW7H0c

Yeah, the first 10 seconds of the Pockit video immediately sent me back nearly 10 years to Phonebloks.

Some follow up:

Typical, fairly sensationalist piece on Google's Project Ara - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQqudiUdGuo

and then, Phonebloks, 5 years later - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_wwrIpv38nE

Had me right up until "phone companies work together to make the best phones in the world".

Still want to see a prototype though.

Over on Reddit, this was posted as an example of what happens when you don't involve an engineer. The comments thread is worth reading, but the primary point that most people make is that with plug and play hardware, you lose things like high bus speeds.

I could not find the project page. anybody knows?

is it more than a concept at his point?

It seem to go a step forward over Jolla's Other Half concept, where just the back (with extra/different functionalities, like i.e. hardware keyboard or more battery) is replaceable.

Anyway, probably big companies will not want it, they want that you replace your phone from time to time. But small ones (i.e. chinese manufacturers wanting to make themselves an space) could grow a healthy ecosystem around this.

"probably big companies will not want it"

..then screw them, let's go open-hardware with it!
