Hacker News Stories and Comments
All the comments and stories posted to Hacker News that reference this video.Meta Platforms, absolute scum. They're giving a platform for far-right political groups across the EU, therefore aiding their operation. We have reported several popular Facebook groups, pages and profiles that spread hateful content, some of them the official pages of far-right politicians. Absolutely nothing is taken down if the content is not in English, and the influence of these entities are growing by the day on Facebook.Facebook rarely takes down non-English content that breaks their terms of service. Meta Platforms simply does not care. The attention of the media is focused on English content, and Meta only reacts in a meaningful way when they're called out in major news stories.

Meta Platforms was fine with aiding the radicalization of the Russian population in the past decade, and it will continue to do nothing, except offer token concessions to insert itself in the news cycle for cheap PR wins.
⬐ ogogmad> far-right political groups across the EUPlease provide some examples of what you consider to be "far right". I'm afraid that right-of-centre and Euro-sceptic views are being labelled "far right", which doesn't help us fight actual Fascists, Nazis, racists, social Darwinists, bigots and neo-colonialists. It dilutes the meaning of those terms.
[edit] I didn't see your link because you edited it in.
⬐ dessant⬐ politicianFacebook is full of hateful content that is illegal to post online in certain member states, do a search for German terms on Facebook to see for yourself. Then repeat the search using other European languages. Also look up antivax terms, and enjoy the Facebook groups with hundreds of thousands of followers, blaming minorities for the pandemic, and for having to wear masks. This is the Russian state media line.⬐ dessant⬐ LascailleThey obviously hijack the political themes that they think will resonate with the population, but that should not lead to you looking with crossed eyes to any comment that discusses far-right radicalization on social media.⬐ politicianI agree, but now is not the moment for appearing to be an apparatchik.⬐ dessantOn the contrary, this continues to be the time to hold your beliefs, and to express them. We should probably be more mindful about throwing such one-liners, anything can be twisted out of context.⬐ politicianI disagree, there is a time and place for everything.⬐ dessantFor example, you're not supposed to post cheap remarks and allude to people being dishonest, just because you remembered a catchphrase from the news.⬐ politicianI wasn’t implying that you were being dishonest. I’m sure these are your sincerely held beliefs, but it still makes you look like a stooge for the Russians to be repeating their state media while they’re invading their neighbor.⬐ dessantYou've done it for the third time now, I will report your activity.⬐ dang⬐ dangPlease do not feed flamewars on HN, no matter how bad another comment is or you feel it is."Eschew flamebait. Avoid unrelated controversies and generic tangents."
Please don't cross into personal attack or post any more flamewar comments to HN. It's not what this site is for, and it destroys what it is for.>We have reported>the official pages of far-right politicians
That seems anti-democratic of you. Don't you believe in people being able to vote for things you don't agree with?
⬐ frereubu⬐ coffeefirst> that spread hateful contentThis is the key bit, not the far-right bit. Depends rather on what OP considers "hateful content" though.
Oh, they rarely take down English content in the US either. When I deactivated my account I had an inbox full of "This does not violate our community standards" notes.(Conveniently for them, they don't put the thing you flagged next to their reply so you can't collect screenshots of fascist agitprop in juxtaposition to their apathy.)
Did you watch John Oliver's latest episode on misinformation [0]? They put out a website, available in multiple languages, of things to spread:https://bettermorningmessages.com/
Education via spreading funny memes that say not to spread stuff that is un-trusted is probably the best idea that doesn't involve the owners of those apps changing something.
In my opinion, a change on all social media platforms that would be awesome is a process to get an account listed as a "trusted source" and only trusted sources can have content go viral/global. Simple enforcement is if a trusted source gets reported to be spreading BS, they get banned. Everything else can only be 2 degrees of separation from the poster, which is friend of a friend basically. It won't eliminate the problem but it could possibly cut down on the misinformation spreading.
