HN Theater has aggregated all Hacker News stories and comments that mention The Telegraph's video "Sweden vs UK: How my life in lockdown-free Sweden is different | Coronavirus".
Youtube Summary
For the most part, life in Sweden has not changed.

While most of Europe locked down, Swedes kept enjoying many freedoms, including Telegraph journalist Richard Orange.

Schools, restaurants, fitness centres and even borders have remained open, but at the same time it coincided with a per capita death rate that was much higher than in other Nordic countries.

Nonetheless, its relatively low-key strategy has captured the world's attention and as fears of a second wave grow across Europe, it's fashionable to praise Sweden.

While coronavirus infection numbers surge in much of Europe, Sweden reports some of the lowest numbers of new cases.

Overall, Sweden has 88,237 reported infections and 5,864 fatalities from the virus, or 57.5 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants since the beginning of the crisis.

Whether Sweden's strategy is succeeding, remains still uncertain.

Everything about Sweden's strategy is just common sense voluntary recommendations (work from home if possible) and there are no penalties:

> Schools being kept open in the belief that it is actually a net benefit. Not being a significant contributor to the spread while parents are freed up to do important work. It’s been the goal all along to keep health care capacity above demands.

I agree with that and wish more people were thinking this way in the U.S.

> Last I heard it is still believed that there is no scientific basis supporting masks as an effective measure, if beneficial at all. (It’s often mention with a reiteration that the primary measure for any person with symptoms is to stay at home)

I believe this is correct. Masks only work in sterile environments and only if they are truly medical grade. I see people sniffling all over their masks and they are probably hosting tons of bacteria for the wearer. And people touch them and then touch other things.

Swedes by and large do not wear masks, schools have stayed open the whole time, bars and restaurants stayed open the whole time...https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=jqjorS3oYlk
