Youtube Summary
I'm building the World's First iPhone with a USB Type-C port. It needs to support charging and data transfers. This first part is about getting the electronics to work. I explain the challenges I faced and show the DIY prototype. The next step will be to reverse-engineer the Apple C94 connector and make my own PCB with a female USB C port.

The Strange Parts channel is a good channel you need to check out. Scotty Allen speculates about if the Type C iPhone is feasible. I'm going to make that hack happen. #StrangeParts

Seems like there's a lot of people doing the same project.

I switched to iPhone after many years of Android.

I do feel iOS/iPhone is a bit oversold by the religious cult. Android voice recognition works far better, as well as the swipe keyboard. The screen on the iPhone scratches easier. The lack of real U2F in your Apple ID is concerning, and there's no unification in Apple's ecosystem for payments, despite what they tell you.

Despite that, I will say it's nice to escape web-view hell of Android; everything actually looks nice on iPhone and it's nice to get away from Javascript land. It's also nice to escape Facebook and Google's creepy ass telemetry of your entire life, even if you "opt out" (which is a joke).

The main PITA is the legacy, outdated, and absurd lightning connector that's locked the platform into 2010 USB speeds and until recently, slow charge wattages.

I know they're probably trying to hope they can get wireless charge wattages high enough to eliminate ports all together, but I doubt they're going to be able to do it efficiently (meaning, keep device and charger at reasonable temperatures) without a material sciences breakthrough.

It's time to just switch to USB-C. We could be fast charging @ 90w with graphene batteries soon. Literally _everyone_ wants usb-c on an iPhones, it's time to ditch the Lightning connector dinosaur.

10/10 update: Looks like the poster was able to fit the entire type-c adapter into his iphone, exciting stuff! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SAekbJf4Gsw

From the pic at https://youtu.be/SAekbJf4Gsw?t=28, looks like he was looking for gaps inside the phone to put some components, and making a super thin board to wire them all together.

I'm not sure that was the right link, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SAekbJf4Gsw

Youre right, that’s embarrassing lol. Fixed.
