For those interested in classic game dev, the guys at the Computerphile YT channel did a series with a guy that wrote a Genesis game a few years back using an original dev kit on a mid-90s PC.

I don't believe this is actually true for many consoles. Game Dev Kits where normally a more open version of the hardware that was either hard coupled with a PC, or able to connect to one and have game data essentially streamed too it.

Not that I'm trying to discourage developing for emulators. Just see how machine accurate the emulator you're using is first :)
