Focus is a thing hard to come by in our offices these days. We are constantly badgered by people and apps, and this is my take on how we can control a bit of the app part and a bit of the people part. This is essentially a movement towards creating a culture where you can get to focus on the important stuff for a greater time period.

This was partly inspired by Jason Fried's talk on TED (http://www.ted.com/talks/jason_fried_why_work_doesn_t_happen...) and his amazing book "Remote: Office not required".

My name is Joe Charat. I’m on the team at Naked Apartments. Thanks for taking the time to read and comment on our job post. I see in one of your previous HN comments that you are or were a “product manager at a tech company.” Given that role, I can understand why you might disagree with our organizational structure.

How teams are comprised is certainly an important decision for any company, but there are many ways of going about it. Countess companies have succeeded with product managers leading or working alongside developers, and countless companies have succeeded without product managers. We happen to be in the latter category.

And for what it’s worth, we’re doing quite well.

I'm glad to know I'm not alone in this. Early mornings and late nights are both good... but during the typical work day I find it nigh on impossible to really be productive at the office.

The problem is the people who tap you on the shoulder, or worse... those who know they shouldn't disturb you so hang quietly around your desk until you give up and make eye contact or otherwise acknowledge that they're there.

They succeed in disturbing you without actually disturbing you, it's great (for them).

Seems like a _typical_ approach to that problem. I can't work well in offices, so offices are evil.

I like my job, and I work from office, from coffee shop, basement, apartment, cinema, porch or any other place.

Skype, IM, Email is _not_ a problem. Most offices I worked in, people do work silently. They _want_ to get their stuff done.

I don't get it.
