Science fiction hasn’t prepared us to imagine machine learning
I remember reading Avogadro Corp.[1] a couple of years ago and being impressed at how its AI (NLP in particular) felt quite in touch with the real stuff. I think it was self-published but I'm not sure.[1] https://www.amazon.com/Avogadro-Corp-Singularity-Closer-Appe...
⬐ inetseeThis is the first book in William Hertling's "Singularity" series. He does self-publish his books, and he has been nominated for, and won, Science Fiction awards.

Crystal promises to help you understand how best to talk to any person
Weird. I was just reading William Hertling's Avogadro Corp (http://www.amazon.com/Avogadro-Corp-Singularity-Closer-Appea...) and the premise of that book is that someone builds this product exactly. Unfortunately, it very quickly goes all Skynet/HAL on the world.. oh well.

Looks like it really is closer than it appears!⬐ jemfinchSpoilers.⬐ gotofritzThat's the problem with the increasing speed of technological advance, it makes it impossibile to enjoy SF as by the time you are halfway through the book it's already happened in real life!⬐ gotofritzThat's the problem with the increasing speed of technological advance, it makes it impossibile to enjoy SF as by the time you are halfway through the book it's already happened in real life!
