Virtual Particles: What are they? (2011)
As a rejoinder, maybe Richard Mattuck’s book would be helpful for those interested in Feynman diagrams generally:;Guide-Feynman-Diagrams-Many-Body-Prob...Accessible to anyone who can sum a geometric series and take a Fourier transform!
(Feynman diagrams for dummies basically, for any who run across this comment - yes I’m being cheeky about “dummies” but I believe it calls itself something similar in the front matter. A self interaction term, then.)

How Feynman Diagrams Revolutionized Physics
Chapters 0 and 1 in this book by Mattuck are also a fantastic read for a general audience interested in what's going on 'under the hood'. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Feynman-Diagrams-Many-body-Problem-...Feynman's own book 'QED: the strange theory of light and matter' is another good read, but strangely it is a bit lacking in illustrations. (And the illustrations that are there are a bit dry compared to Mattuck!)
